IG Sport St.Gallen supports the Pizol racing and training center

The Snowmaking 4.0 project is currently being implemented on the Pizol. CHF 12.4 million will be invested in snow safety by 2028. The surrounding ski clubs with over 2,350 members and around 650 JO children as well as the Sarganserland-Walensee Ski Association (SSW) and the Eastern Switzerland Ski Association (OSSV) are supporting the project. IG Sport SG is also participating in the snowmaking project on the Pizol by means of a perimeter procedure with a contribution of CHF 285,000 from the sports fund of the canton of St. Gallen and is securing a racing and training center on the Pizol for the ski associations making the contribution.

Pizol racing and training center

The concept for skiing/snowboarding and racing has been refined in recent years and has been incorporated into the design of the Snowmaking 4.0 project. "The aim was to give racing a secure place alongside tourism," says Klaus Nussbaumer, CEO of Pizolbahnen. "In collaboration with the Sarganserland-Walensee Ski Association (SSW) and the Eastern Switzerland Ski Association (OSSV), we were able to incorporate the needs of a future PIZOL racing and training center," adds board member and planner (CWZ) Rafael Wyrsch. The effort for the race and training organization, especially with regard to controlling the flow of people, barriers and safety equipment, should be reduced to a minimum. A simple race installation with the best possible availability and compatibility with tourist operations must be easy to implement. In recent years, various training groups, including the Swiss women's national team, which have held training sessions on the Pizol, have gained important insights.

Right of use for the associations

"With the contribution of CHF 285,000 from IG Sport SG, the training opportunities for alpine and snowboard sports can be secured for years to come," say Martin Broder, President of the SSW and Jörg Abderhalden, President of the OSSV in unison. In future, designated slopes will be available to the Sarganserland-Walensee Ski Association (SSW) and the Eastern Switzerland Ski Association (OSSV) via an agreed right of use.

IG Sport SG and ski associations get a picture

Recently, representatives of IG Sport SG and the ski associations were able to see for themselves the progress of the work on the new snowmaking system on the Pizol. Josef Dürr, President of IG Sport SG, was pleased to note that "the money is being put to good use on the Pizol and is providing the ski associations and ski clubs with an important sports facility for winter sports".
