GEOTOUR Garmil Mountain Hike
The Garmil mountain hike is an imposing mountain hike with sites steeped in history, bubbling mountain streams and a wide variety of flowers along the way.
The mountain hike to the Garmil is in the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Tektonikarena Sardona" and can be experienced thorugh multimedia. you can use your the smartphone to listen and watch nine stations with exciting information on the geological history about the Garmil. Local legend has it that there are valuable rocks in the Pizol area, which give the Garmil mountain hike a mystical touch.
From the Gaffia mountain station, the path runs up a steady but gradual incline over the Chrutplangg and the Schaffeln to the Garmil summit, the highest point of the hike. On the left is the distinctive Gamidaurspitz, where in the 18th century the people of Wangs fled with crosses and flags to escape the plague raging in the Sargans region.
The descent runs over the Fürggli, partly on a zigzag path, down to the Vollenplangg and towards Fälli, both of which form part of the Alp Mugg. On the last ascent, hikers can once again enjoy the magnificent view of the St. Gallen Rhine Valley before reaching the shrine of St. Brother Klaus. A mountain worship service is held here every year. A little further on, hikers arrive at Furt.
Route: Gaffia – Basürla – Garmil – Fürggli – Vollenplangg – Furt
Arrival: gondola lift and chairlift Wangs – Furt – Gaffia (30 min.)
